Interproximal Reduction Procedures

Step 1

Review the lab report to check in which location interproximal reduction is required

Step 2

Use dental floss for the preparation in the appropriate interdental space

Step 3

Place the IPR strip in the desired contat

Step 4

Gradually move the strip labio-lingually and if necesary, several times gingival until the contacts are sufficiently opened and there is no longer resistance

Step 6

Using the IPR strip, roundation of the line angles are achieved by apply the IPR strips to the surfaces while moving labio-lingually

Step 6

Using dental floss, check that the interdental spaces are contact-free and smooth Subgingival contact should not longer be present

Additional comments

After IPR, fluoride gel or fluoride toothpaste should be applied for 5 minutes to close the enamel wound

To determine whether the interdental spaces have been suffiencently opened, an IPR gauge can be used

If IPR is required, but the contacts is already opened, smooth the surfaces in the interdental space and make sure that required distance is actually present
